Transcend™ Broadband Rejuvenation (BBR)

— Advanced light-based rejuvenation for sun damage, redness and pigmentation

What is IPL and BroadBand Light (BBL™)?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and BroadBand Light (BBL™) are advanced non-invasive light-based skin rejuvenation treatments designed to improve the appearance of sun damaged, pigmented, red and aging skin. These technologies deliver carefully controlled pulses of light energy into the skin to target unwanted pigment, vascular redness and signs of photoaging while stimulating healthier skin renewal. IPL and BBL™ are commonly used on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and hands — areas most affected by chronic sun exposure.

IPL and BBL™ treatments are ideal for individuals interested in:

  • Reducing sun spots and pigmentation,
  • Improving facial redness and rosacea,
  • Treating age spots and uneven skin tone,
  • Enhancing skin clarity and brightness,
  • Improving mild acne and post-inflammatory redness,
  • Softening visible signs of photoaging, and
  • Achieving healthier, rejuvenated skin with minimal downtime.

BBL™ represents an evolution of traditional IPL technology, offering enhanced precision, improved comfort, and customizable treatment settings tailored to individual skin concerns and skin types.

IPL and BBR use specific wavelengths of visible light that penetrate the skin and selectively target pigment and blood vessels without damaging surrounding tissue. The light energy is absorbed by melanin (pigmented lesions) or haemoglobin (redness and vessels), which are then naturally cleared by the body over time.

The treatment also gently heats the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting overall skin rejuvenation. Unlike ablative lasers, IPL and BBL™ are non-invasive and generally involve minimal downtime, making them attractive “lunchtime” rejuvenation procedures.

Sessions typically take between 20–45 minutes depending on the treatment area and concern being addressed. Multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal outcomes.

IPL and BBR are versatile technologies commonly used to improve:

  • Sun damage and solar lentigines (“sun spots”),
  • Freckles and uneven pigmentation,
  • Rosacea and facial redness,
  • Broken capillaries and superficial vessels,
  • Dull or uneven skin tone,
  • Mild inflammatory acne,
  • Photoaging and skin rejuvenation, and
  • General skin texture and radiance.

Our evidence-based approach focuses on selecting appropriate treatments based on your individual skin type, skin condition and treatment goals.

Following IPL or BBR treatment, the skin may appear mildly pink and feel warm, similar to mild sunburn. Pigmented lesions often temporarily darken before naturally flaking away over several days.

Most patients experience minimal downtime and can return to normal activities quickly. Depending on the treatment intensity and individual skin sensitivity, redness may persist from several hours up to a few days. Strict sun protection is essential following treatment to optimize healing and outcomes.

Because IPL and BBR are non-invasive treatments, they generally involve less downtime than more aggressive resurfacing procedures.

At DermaSurg Skin Clinic, we believe cosmetic skin treatments should always be evidence-based and patient-centred. Our experienced clinical team combines expertise in dermatology, skin cancer medicine and cosmetic skin rejuvenation to deliver safe, practical and personalized treatment plans.

Every patient begins with a comprehensive skin consultation to assess concerns such as pigmentation, redness, sun damage and skin aging before recommending the most appropriate treatment strategy. Treatments may also be combined with complementary therapies such as chemical peels, microneedling, phototherapy or prescription skin care where appropriate.

A consultation allows us to assess your skin concerns, discuss realistic treatment expectations, and develop a personalized skin rejuvenation plan tailored to your needs.
